'Lanterne Rouge' Art Deco Cycling Print
This design marks one of cycling's more peculiar distinctions: the 'Lanterne Rouge', which is a term awarded to any competitor in a bike race who finds themselves in last position. The term Lanterne Rouge (Red Lantern) refers to the safety lamps which were originally hung onto the rear carriage of a train.
Though not particularly prestigious, in the past this award has been keenly contested among riders at the rear of the standings of such races as the Tour de France; as it provided not only a certain level of celebrity, but also the prospect of increased appearance fees in the post-Tour criteriums!
Celebrate your love for the underdog with this Art Deco inspired cycling print, which would light up any feature wall or pain cave.
